About the Leaders:
Paramananda was curious about Eastern ideas from a young age, and after the death of his father, he experienced an interest in Buddhism. At that time, the focus of his life shifted from politics to spiritual concerns. He worked as a psychiatric social worker in drug detox facilities and hospice. In 1983, Paramananda came into contact with Triratna, and in 1985 was Ordained into the Order. Since that time, he has been teaching meditation and Buddhism full-time in San Francisco and London. He sees meditation and Buddhism as powerful tools for both individual and social change and believes that service to the community is a vital aspect of spiritual practice. He is the author of several books, including Change Your Mind: A Practical Guide to Buddhist Meditation, published by Windhorse Publications.
Paramabodhi is a Senior Order Member in the Triratna Community and was Ordained over 40 years ago. He lived and worked at the San Francisco Buddhist Center during the 1990’s, helping to establish that now-thriving community. He maintains a strong connection to the SFBC, visiting to lead retreats and Sangha Nights. Paramabodhi has spent years teaching from and contemplating the Satipatthana Sutta. He works full-time as an artist (Hugh Mendes) and teacher in London while also teaching meditation and Buddhism at the London Buddhist Center.
