Join for us for the launch of our 2023 program—COURAGEOUS LOVE: Being Awake to the Cries of the World!

Love—translated as metta or maitri—is the whole of the spiritual life. There is nothing else.

The examination of what that actually means in practice—how we might live day-by-day from love—is a signature theme of Triratna, with our emphasis on friendship, connection, and community. In Triratna, we believe that a spiritual life fully lived is one lived with care for other beings at its core (with all the complexity, messiness, and joy that comes with it).

Love is not weak or tepid, but can be radically transformative and transformational. Having the courage to embrace love—and the full implications of our interconnectedness—gives us access to a wealth of inner resources and energy for action in the face of challenges in our world.

In 2023, the Triratna NY-NJ sangha will explore Courageous Love. What does it mean to feel unlimited love—to be awake to the cries of the world—and how do we live from that point? In such difficult and complex times, how do we reach out fearlessly whilst nourishing ourselves?

We will start by anchoring ourselves in that core Mahayana teaching of selfless compassion—the Bodhisattva Ideal. We will explore Buddhist responses to injustice, climate change, and capitalism. We will learn about the example and teachings of Dr. Ambedkar. And we will keep coming back to our grounded experience: how and where do we anchor our care for self and others in our day-to-day practice.
